With Secretary Sonny Angara at the helm—also the principal author of the Anti-Bullying Act of 2013 (RA 10627)—DepEd is spearheading strategic reforms to intensify child protection efforts in schools.
Here's how DepEd is turning its commitment into action:
âś… Key Initiatives and Updates from DepEd:
1. Comprehensive Assessment
Launched in November 2024, the Child Protection Committee (CPC) Functionality Assessment Tool ensures that CPCs in schools are operational, responsive, and equipped to handle child protection concerns effectively.
2. Policy Revisions
DepEd is currently updating the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRRs) of the Anti-Bullying Act and the Safe Spaces Act. These updates will address modern threats such as cyberbullying and online peer violence.
3. Enhanced Training Programs
Specialized training sessions are now being rolled out for guidance counselors, school heads, child protection officers, and parents to boost their capacity in handling bullying incidents with compassion and efficacy.
4. Integrated Values Education
Starting School Year 2025–2026, the K to 10 curriculum will place stronger emphasis on values formation. Anti-bullying principles will be embedded in subjects like GMRC (Good Manners and Right Conduct), Values Education, and Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao.
5. Targeted Interventions
Students involved in bullying will undergo counseling and behavioral interventions that promote empathy, responsibility, and positive change, rather than just punitive measures.
6. Mental Health Support Expansion
Aligned with the Basic Education Mental Health Act, DepEd is scaling up mental health initiatives, offering wider access to psychological support services in schools.
🤝 A Collaborative Effort for Safer Schools
DepEd reaffirms its commitment to working hand-in-hand with parents, teachers, and local communities to ensure that every learner feels valued, safe, and empowered within school grounds.
